Richard Reznick Research Week 2023
The Richard K. Reznick Wilson Centre Research annual event was established to celebrate the remarkable depth and breadth of scholarship in health professions education underway at the University of Toronto and the University Health Network. Whether in person or virtual, we will continue to highlight our community’s successes and accomplishments.
Dr Ivy Bourgeault’s keynote address will be on: How are health professions supposed to work together if they do not truly train together? Reflections on the Team Primary Care, Training for Transformation Initiative
Ivy Lynn Bourgeault, PhD, is a Professor in the School of Sociological and Anthropological Studies at the University of Ottawa and the University Research Chair in Gender, Diversity and the Professions. She leads the Canadian Health Workforce Network and the Empowering Women Leaders in Health initiative. Dr. Bourgeault has garnered an international reputation for her research on the health workforce, particularly from a gender lens. Past projects have examined the migration and integration of health workers from a comparative perspective and on primary and maternity care workforce issues. Recent projects focus on care relationships in home and long term care, and on psychological health and safety of professional workers. She has been a consultant to various provincial Ministries of Health in Canada, to Health Canada, the pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the OECD and to the World Health Organization. Board experience includes the Canadian Interprofessional Health Collaborative, the Institute of Health Services and Policy Research at the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the international journals, Human Resources for Health and Frontiers in Sociology. She was inducted into the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences in September 2016 and received the 2016/17 University of Ottawa Award for Excellence in Research.
About Dr. Richard Reznick
Richard Reznick received his medical degree from McGill University, followed by a general surgical residency at the University of Toronto. He spent two years in fellowship training, first obtaining a Masters’ degree in medical education, followed by a fellowship in colorectal surgery at the University of Texas.
Dr. Reznick was the inaugural Director of the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine’s Centre for Research in Education at University Health Network, and in 1999 was appointed Vice President of Education at University Health Network. He served eight years as the R. S. McLaughlin Professor and Chairman of the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto.
From 2010 -2020, Dr. Reznick assumed the position of Dean, Faculty of Health Sciences at Queen’s University and Chief Executive Officer of the Southeastern Ontario Academic Medical Organization (SEAMO).
From 2021 - 2023, Dr. Reznick assumed the position of President of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
