Qualitative Research an Introduction
A four-day intensive course on qualitative research
October 22-25 2018
The Wilson Centre is proud to present Qualitative Research: An Introduction, a four-day intensive program in qualitative education research for participants interested in gaining a basic understanding of qualitative research principles, methodologies and applications.
The Wilson Centre has one of the largest concentrations in the world of qualitative researchers in the health professions education research field. Our qualitative researchers represent diverse theoretical, disciplinary and methodological perspectives.
This program is the first in a series of three award-winning short courses that provide an overview of the philosophical and theoretical underpinnings and methodological intricacies of qualitative research.
This workshop will focus on guiding participants through the necessary considerations for developing qualitative studies in the health professions education domain. From a basic understanding of founding philosophies and traditions to the most common methodologies and methods, participants will learn how to begin their qualitative research journey.
This program is designed for both:
- Researchers from education research centers and programs who want an introduction to qualitative research.
- Individuals from the broad medical education research community with little experience but significant interest in understanding qualitative research
1. Participants will be exposed to some of the philosophical and theoretical foundations of qualitative research.
2. Participants will develop an understanding of 4 common methodological approaches to qualitative research.
3. Participants will build skills in qualitative research methods (e.g. data collection through interviews)
